Writing about restaurants, shopping, boating, wine tasting, etc., is all well and good but let’s be honest. If you decide to own Niagara-on-the-Lake real estate and make this town your new permanent home, it needs to offer a lot more than that. It needs to have great services and facilities that make everyday life as simple and pleasant as possible.
Given the fact the majority of people moving here are retired or retiring in the near future, an inevitable requirement is good quality medical services. I am glad to say, we are well covered here!
There is a great medical clinic on the edge of town – the Niagara on the Lake Family Health Team – that has been providing excellent medical services for quite some time. It’s just about to undergo a major expansion to add a number of support services such as blood work, x-rays, scans all under one roof. The pharmacy with late opening hours is also exceptional.
In the town of NOTL, it is a fact the old hospital has closed and only offers limited support services now – most of which will move to the medical clinic when the new building is ready. But to compensate for that, a brand new hospital was opened in St Catharines just a couple of years ago and this facility offers a fantastic range of medical services.
In addition to this, the green light has been given to build another new hospital on the edge of Niagara Falls. These two modern facilities will cover the whole of the Niagara Region in time as other small hospitals close. Both these hospitals are within 25 minutes of Niagara on the Lake.
Close by, there are lots of excellent dentists, dental hygienists, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, naturopaths and a whole host of other specialists to deal with a full range of medical needs. And if your four legged family members need some help, there are several wonderful veterinarians in the area!
If a good supply of health foods and alternatives such as raki, meditation, yoga, exercise classes, etc., is more your thing, then you will not be disappointed here either. If what you want is not in Niagara on the Lake, it will almost certainly be available within 30 minutes of your front door in Virgil, St Davids, Niagara Falls or St Catharines.
It is reassuring to know that if you need medical help, it is never too far away.
